Many people with psychiatric problems do not receive any form of treatment. The majority of those who do will get their mental health care in a general medical setting. Primary care doctors and nurses provide mental health services, including prescribing psychiatric medications. Treatment is often successful, but when difficulties arise we can often be helpful to patients and their primary doctors. Many patients are reluctant to seek specialty mental health services, and prefer to remain under the care of their trusted primary doctor.
As board certified psychiatrists, we have specialized training and expertise for helping people recover from mental health problems. We bring our valuable clinical experience, having worked as specialists with thousands of unique patients over the years.

Karen Reimers, M.D.
Dr. Reimers is the founder of Consult Psych MDs. She works with adult patients and has special interest in psychiatric medication management, geriatric psychiatry, and addictions. She has been practicing psychiatry full time since 2013. Dr. Reimers provides clinical consultation and education services for patients, mental health professionals, medical clinics, hospitals, and community organizations.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does you offer ongoing psychiatric treatment?
No. Consult Psych MDs offers a one-time clinical consultation - online and flexible, resulting in recommendations for your primary doctor to continue your care. We also offer other services to support doctors in clinical practice.
Will the Consult Psych MDs psychiatrist prescribe medication?
No. Following the one-time consultation, we can make recommendations to your primary doctor regarding your prescriptions where appropriate. As a patient, you will remain under the care of your primary doctor. Ultimately, your primary doctor will be the one to work with you and decide whether to prescribe psychiatric medications for you.
Do I need an appointment?
If you choose the Online Consult option, we will reach out for appointment scheduling. For Flexible Consults, no appointment is needed.
What is the turnaround time for Flexible Consults?
Approximately 2-3 business days, though often they can be completed within 24 hours.
What if my doctor has questions and needs to follow up with you after the one-time consultation?
We offer a curbside hotline subscription service for doctors. Subscribers can call the psychiatrist with questions.
What if my concerns cannot be adequately addressed with a one-time consultation?
In such cases, we will recommend that you establish with a traditional office-based psychiatrist as soon as possible, for appropriate care and monitoring .
